You ever see a glassy-eyed peacock-haired, druggish looking gal shambling around downtown Frisco? Could be me.

New Design Bites Bad
Why did you throw away all the topics? Why are you adding 'followers' making it just like every other social netwanking site? Why a 'not grump' category? It makes no sense...It was way, way better the way it was before. And the text typing form area is way too tiny, I can't see what I'm friggin' do More...

OKThatsit following is a good thing because it prevents spam and it gives the user good control over what content they are viewing. we took out the topics because 90% of the grumps were getting into 1 category anyway ("general things"). the not a grump button is important because sometimes people want to share stuff that are not grumps
Claudine Minzie i like what psychaotic says trhis is too contrary
psychaotic Sharing stuff that is not grumps can be done on Farcebook. The world does not need another 'follower' site. I liked Grumper when it didn't remind me of sites trying too hard to be 'social'. In 1996 my favourite website was something called Phlog.com, the Phlogistician's Corner. The thing was just made up out of editable HTML pages and was totally anonymous, though people who hung out there tended to use their same names. I guess something like that would now be overrun by spam...But the topics were good. I liked reading the list of grumps about internet, about emotional stuff, and left the celebrity and sports areas alone. This way, we don't get that choice...
OKThatsit this is not another follower site. as opposed to pretty much ANY other website out there in here we don't make believe like no one has any problems and the only feelings in the world are positive ones. unlike twitter, facebook your purpose here is not to "show how awesome you are" but to find people who might be sharing the same problems as you. I don't know about any other social network that does that
McGregor03 I agree with u psychaotic...
FriarTuck Psychaotic, if the old site had stayed like something that reminded you of 1996, it would not be progressive enough for the rest of the world and it would continue to slow down. The way the site is laid out now is not only progressive, but more beneficial for the administrators from a business standpoint. This way, not only does the site get a little kick, but the people who built it can actually make some of a living. If this is a problem then maybe the tardis is calling to take you back to the 90's.
Kiteboardordie Nobody used the categories for navigation, you can change the size of the text box when you're posting grumps by clicking on the triangle in the bottom right corner, people posted "not grumps" on the old site all the time, and who gives a shit about the color scheme? Sage, if it existed here.
OKThatsit nice. also, this site will always remain an underdog, it will never become mainstream. and yea, the world needs a website like that
problemsolver @fatterhappier i love your way of thinking!
ChesireCLAM I love the colors.
FriarTuck Thank you, Sir.
CristaliaMi I feel a sense of community here. You don't get that in mainstream sites.
psychaotic @fatterhappier Tardis back to the mid 90's? Oh point me to that, and I'll never grump about anything again...but it'd all be about personal reasons, not websites. @McGregor03& Claudine - Thanks for your support, but it looks like we're outvoted. Oh well. @Kiteboardordie - What browser/platform are you using? No such triangle luck with mine. (Firefox on Win7) @everyone else: Aw piffle and c'est la vie. Dinna mean to imply it completely ruined the site for me - and if the users like it better this way, it means they'll hang around more, I guess. Do consider the possibility that the 'community' you speak of existed prior to the change. Will it go on being quite the same? Time will tell. Forgive me for having some nostalgia for sites that don't involve collecting followers. Without that function everyone reads everyone else; with follower-collecting, community tends to fragment into little cliques. I have been around the web longer than most of you I'd surmise and have seen it happen too many times, thus my grumpiness about it being what mighta seemed to y'all to be overblown. Obviously a site like Phlog wouldn't work in the here-and-now, but I remember being a beta tester for StumbleUpon, having no idea it would turn into a Gigantic Phenom and have been on it since day one. Before it, too, had a 'follower' function. Now I'm not the only Early-Adopter who feels this way there...I had other old SU users trying to get me to come to the forum and rant about it, and at the time I'd unfortunately been moving and had no time/netpipe/energy to do it. I still enjoy the Stumble part but everything else changed. (Though it DID improve its design!) It seems that once F & T started all that "following" bit, everyone else had to jump on the bandwagon. Not sure how this is supposed to make a profit for APC (is that the motive here? It didn't feel that way to me) but a site can have a larger number of users than say, 25 and still feel unfragmented and whole. And lastly - this is all just an old middle aged hippie scowling at Things Being Different Than She Used To Remember Them and Like Them. I'm not going to endlessly piss and moan about it if it's not what the majority - and the person running it - believes. I've made myself abundantly clear by now, and since I hate redundancy, consider this my last comment on the matter. (I guess if I don't like the colours, I'll just haveta use something to make 'em change a lot for ME. Like my purple shaded granny glasses, or - Gods willing - something slightly more effective, but even more extinct than purple shaded granny glasses. PS: Sorry this is such a WALL OF TEXT but the text box won't let me make paragraphs.
psychaotic Not my fault this damn thing doesn't allow paragraphs. I also ignore all TLDR comments. If ya dinna have the attention span or you had better things to do than read a long rant, it doesn't mean it was 'too long'. FWIW, if I'd''ve been able to paragraph it, it wouldnae ended up so long.
CristaliaMi I think the whole follower thing was intended to allow you to ignore annoying people and spammers. To be honest, I wasn't thrilled with the whole concept of following, either. I felt that my grumps would go unnoticed, and I'd have a hard time seeing new grumps.
OKThatsit i'm open to critisim, so don't feel bad about posting this. the purpose of following is like cristalia said, and yes, I actually do want the site to start dividing into smaller cliques, this is needed because not everyone can get along with everyone and not everyone are interesting to everyone. also,we plan to release a "group" feature which we feel will take the site to a whole new level. such as "people who suffer from X" group. I believe that is very much needed. See, the purpose of this site is for you to connect with people who suffer from the same things as you. without following and the planned groups feature, this will be impossible. by the way, claudine and mcgregor might agree with you, but they didn't even know grumper.org, they were (and still are) grumper FB app users, only now if you go to apps.facebook.com/grumper you get pretty much the same thing as here
CristaliaMi :( I fear rejection if cliques form. I'm afraid that I wouldn't be "part of" anything and would be left out.
FriarTuck You'll be okay, Cristalia.
CristaliaMi I'm afraid I won't fit in anywhere.
FriarTuck If you didn't fit in anywhere, you wouldn't have 33 people following you :)
CristaliaMi :)
keramarie09 I have the same fear, but I'm anxiously excited for this new feature! I don't think that there's anywhere on here that any of us wouldn't fit in. That's the great thing about this site.

CristaliaMi I always think sarcastic thoughts when I see things like that, like, "Does it involve amputating something?"
commoner62 It's just like a commerical I saw for a weight loss drink or something. They talked about removing your 'skinny fat', which ladies we all know we have that lil pouch you can't really get rid of. Of course never saw it again after that.
Kiteboardordie If you have that problem, eat more protein.
RullSkatSG It involves a chainsaw and lots of band-aids.
commoner62 Well I have a pouchy belly so I dunno how easily that could solve it. But I am doing more protein cause my other half wants more protein. :P
psychaotic I eat once a day, rice, beans, greens - an occasional banana breakfast. I walk twice a day for 45 minutes fast enough to pant - it's the only exercise other than swimming I can do since I was born with a weak knee joint and they won't operate unless I lose 100 pounds. None of it works. I think every fat person has a different story. A few are gluttons, a few are lazy, Many more, though, are experiencing aging, med side effects, and plain old bad genes. Guys who hang around 'college humour' sites spend almost as much time talking about how ugly fat women are as they do about the ones they think are hot! It's the replacement for the ethnic and gay hate which is finally become uncool in many areas now. People got to have a group to dump on. Too bad I have to belong to it. At least I was thin when I was young. Now it kind of doesn't matter. Well, it does - just different reasons (not getting heart attacks vs. impressing cute dudes. Which is more important?)

Web 2.0 Hell

OKThatsit I actually understand
and as the creator of grumper, i'm working on a new version of the site. hopfully one that will have a "clean" feed. that isn't full of shit that results from cross sharing that no one cares about

OKThatsit but i'm sorry, the design isn't gonna change a lot :)
psychaotic Thank you for providing a site that's actually interesting, does not scrape up every crumb of saleable data on its users to sell to someone or some corp, you have my appreciation.
Now, why can't the design change? It needs different colours, these are colours for baby blankets. It could use a background - not under the text, off to the sides - that's textured or art (see my Outlaw Anodyne blog for example at - I hope this doesn't count as spam - outlawanodyne.wordpress.com.
I think Grumper's great in exactly how it DOES use RSS/XML incidentally - just enough, and in the most appropos ways, and not too much and/or improperly causing web-connexion OD or putting too many lame familiar icons everywhere, namely Big F and Little T-Bird. Facebook and Twitter - always those two everyplace you go - want to have hooks in every site made, now...and hardly anyone at the design sites ever even brings it up much less discusses it. That Jakob guy they all worship hates Design, favouring a content-only web.
I want a workable, dynamic balance...that too much to ask, O Vaunted Webmeisters?

OKThatsit reading this and looking at the new grumper makes me smile
psychaotic I knew it would happen sooner or later - Big F at least doesn't take up a 3rd of the page. And maybe it's just my monitor colours changed but the baby blue looks a tad bit greyer.
